The West Jessamine High School band provided patriotic music to introduce the Memorial Day celebration at Camp Nelson National Cemetery Monday, May 27 with songs including “America is Still Beautiful to Me” and “The Impossible Dream.” U.S. Naval Seal Cadets were seen holding flags representing branches of military service during an armed forces medley during the Memorial Day ceremony. DeWayne Lee Brewer, a retired U.S. Army chaplain with the rank of colonel, read aloud the meaning behind each of the 13 folds in the flag folding ceremony as U.S. Naval Seal Cadets fold the flag. The mother and sister of Chase J. Comley, who died serving in Iraq at age 21 in 2005, sat in the crowd at the Memorial Day ceremony Monday at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. During the ceremony, there was a ceremonial wreath laying for Chase J. Comley. American Legion Post 18, Stanford, conducted a rifle salute before taps were played at the end of the celebration.
