East and West Jessamine High School Bass teams competed against 80 teams March 10 at Herrington Lake in the first of four Kentucky Bass Nation tournaments to be held this year.

Four teams placed in the top 10 with a total of nine teams fishing and finishing 21, 23, 34 and 37. Only 39 teams weighed in fish for the day, with Nathan Marshall, Braxton Lamb, Tom Hager and Austin Murphy qualifying for the state KBN final in September.

Nathan Marshall and Braxton Lamb claimed first, with 15.66 pounds for EJHS. Braxton’s big fish weighed in at 6.82 pounds. Tom Hager and Austin Murphy claimed third with 10.08 pounds for WJHS.

Levi Keith and Casey Shearer claimed seventh with 7.29 pounds for EJHS. Luke Lamb and Ben Dean claimed ninth with 6.36 pounds for WJHS.

The next tournament will be the State Student Angler Federation and is scheduled for March 31 at Burnside Marina.
