West Jessamine High School student Rowan Bickert signed a contract to play defense for the Indiana Wesleyan University’s football team Feb. 22.
This marks the first year for the Indiana Wesleyan University team. While at Indiana Wesleyan, Bickert will be studying athletic training and exercise science.
“He’s a kid that made this an option for him, not only on the field, but in the classroom,” said Bickert’s new head coach, John Gilliam. “Unbelievable ACT score, unbelievable GPA. I have never heard one negative word from any of his teachers, they were bragging about what an outstanding student he was, and then I get to him with football and he’s the same way, constantly working. Great academics, great character, and a hard worker. Indiana Wesleyan is going to get a great ambassador for their team.”
Cathy Bickert, Rowan’s mother, said her son sets an example of kindness, respect, humor and quiet leadership which has been a blessing to her family and others.
“We are so proud of the person Rowan is choosing to be. We are thankful the Lord has given him the opportunity to play football at the college level and we are praying that his experience will be a good one.”
