J.C. Sowers
March 8, 1928 – Feb. 9, 2018
J.C. Sowers, 89, of Nicholasville, passed away Feb. 9, 2018 in Versailles, Kentucky. He was born on March 8, 1928 in Casey County to the late William Edward and Nedie Sowers.
He was survived by his wife, Gladys Foley Sowers, whom he met while riding the bus to school. They started dating after meeting again in church several years later. JC was married to the love of his life for almost seventy years. He was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. He was saved, baptized, and became a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, Kentuckyy and eventually felt a calling to the ministry for a number of years.
He was a pastor at Gilberts Creek Baptist Church in Lancaster, Kentucky, while working full time at IBM, where he was employed for more than 30 years. He was an accomplished auto body man and could repair just about anything electrical or mechanical as well. He was a life long learner who loved his family and his many friends.His unique sense of humor resulted in many memorable stories for those of us left by his passing. He was a long time member of Hart Lodge No. 61 as a chaplain and lecturer.
He raised and trained beagles for many years for field trial events as a hobby. He was a charter and longtime member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Nicholasville. His favorite color was red, with him believing all pickup trucks should be red. He loved following the UK Wildcats basketball team, and enjoyed family and friends all his life. He will be missed by many and remembered by a lot more.
Along with his wife, JC is survived by a son, Don Sowers (Mary Jo) of Nicholasville; a sister, Reba Robertson (William) of Stanford; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a great great grandchild; and many treasured nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, James Clifton Sowers; a daughter, Bonita Ann Sowers; and three brothers, George S., William G., and Sherman Sowers.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at Edgewood Baptist Church in Nicholasville with a Masonic service at 1 p.m. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church. www.spurlinfuneralhomelancaster.com
