Senator Tom Buford has officially filed for re-election to the Kentucky State Senate’s 22nd district. The 22nd district includes all of Garrard, Jessamine, Mercer and Washington Counties, as well as part of Fayette County.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the 22nd district,” Buford said. “And while we’ve accomplished a lot together, there’s still much to be done. Following the successes of 2016 and 2017, I’m confident that if given the chance to return to Frankfort in 2018, we’ll continue to see that progress towards a greater Kentucky.”
A born and raised Kentuckian, he has spent his entire life in the Bluegrass. He was born in Lexington, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1971. Since then, he worked his way up as a contractor and builder in Buford Construction up to Executive Vice President at the Central Bank and Kentucky Bank before retiring.
Buford has been and remains an active member of his district. He’s served as an elder in the Nicholasville Christian Church, a 4-H Adult Leader, a member of the American Institute of Banking, a member of the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Jessamine County Education Foundation and a member of the Arts Council, among many others.
“As an active member of our community and a father, I believe that ensuring the well-being of my friends and neighbors by fighting for them in Frankfort is my solemn duty,” remarked Sen. Buford. “I will continue to push and solve the tough issues facing Kentuckians by not kicking the can down the road.”
Together with his wife Carol, Sen. Buford has two children, Stephanie and Beau as well as two grandchildren.
