East Jessamine High School Theater is preparing to put on a magical rendition of a Disney classic.
The theater group, who has been practicing since January, will be debuting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”
Director of the play and drama coach of the extracurricular drama program, Lindsey Carlstedt, said the story is similar to the traditional Disney story, however, the music mirrors the genre used on Broadway.
“It’s more musical theater in style, rather than just your classic fairy tale,” Carlstedt said.
She said she chose “Cinderella” because of the classic love story and because it provides multiple opportunities for anyone who wishes to participate.
At the moment the performance has a cast of 30 students and a technical crew consisting of around 12.
The production features some magic from the fairy godmother character, that Carlstedt said will be interesting for students to try to recreate on the stage.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s version of “Cinderella” will be the drama programs third and last production of the school year.
The production will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 and Friday, March 24. The show will also occur at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.
Adults tickets will be $8 and student tickets will be $5.
