A culinary team based out of the ProStart curriculum from Jessamine Career and Technology Center scored second place in the Kentucky ProStart Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Shepherdsville.
The team consisting of East Jessamine High School students Morgan Couch, Drew Ramey, Tabitha Thomas, Makayla Rutledge, Donald Owens and Samantha Hall received second place in the state competition for their flank steak with chimichurri sauce, sweet potato hash, apple pie crêpe and roasted beet with goat cheese salad.
“We only lost by like a point so I’m really tickled,” said Elizabeth Crump, Culinary Educator at Jessamine Career and Technology Center.
The students will be taking on their next competition at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Culinary Star Event at Sullivan University in Louisville this Saturday.
After that, Crump said they will be preparing for next years state competition.
