Zaxby’s raises funds all year for holidays

One local restaurant was able to make an impact on 15 different families in Jessamine County this holiday season.
Employees at Zaxby’s in Nicholasville contributed funds into their Princess Angels jar for the fifth year in a row.
Since its creation in 2012, the Princess Angels fundraiser has given gifts to over 100 families, owner of Zaxby’s in Nicholasville Sandy Adams said.
Instead of doing an internal gift-giving activity, such as Secret Santa, employees at the restaurant wanted to give the holiday spirit to those who needed it.
The fundraiser is named after its creator, Danica King, who had been given the nickname Princess.
“She will always be our Princess,” Adams said.
Funds are collected from employees all throughout the year. They are then matched by the owners, Adams and Brad Kelly, right before Christmas.
This year, King — a former general manager and now a consultant for Zaxby’s — visited various stores armed with $650 in funds, two gift cards and names of 15 families provided by The Salvation Army.
King said she was able to purchase over $2,000 worth of clothes and toys thanks to coupons and clearance shopping.
“Every year, we continue to do it because there is such a need,” King said. “We didn’t want anyone to go without.”
King had help from her one-year-old son, Harrison. In April, she will be welcoming her second child, Benjamin Parker.
