‘Take No Prisoners’ opens March 11

Just when everyone could use some live entertainment to look forward to, Asbury University’s Theatre Department announces their upcoming epic comedic adventure “Take No Prisoners!” playing March 11-13 and 18-20.

Taking place in a video game world, virtual characters are waking up and wondering why they’re here. On the run from “the players”, they launch forth in a search for their creator in the real world. Turns out he needs their help just as much as they need his. Full of swordplay, skater punk music, and epic adventure, this fever dream of a play truly takes no prisoners!

“Take No Prisoners!” is written by Jim Shores, who also wrote Asbury’s 2018 hit comedy, “Once in a Blue Moon”. This new play offers an action-packed experience combining comedy adventure with questions about identity, purpose, and the need for love that culminates with the zombie apocalypse. Who could ask for more?

Director Carol Anderson says, “This is going to be a very fun show. We have a talented energetic cast that has invested a lot of work to make this a high-quality production. Their joy in creating many of the funny and moving moments of this show has been a pleasure to watch. I think our audiences are going to be amazed at this show.”

Actors are learning stage combat and fight choreography, experiencing the mash-up of the virtual world with the real world in a rehearsal process that has everyone laughing one minute and practicing throwing zombies the next. Great perks like a lighting design by Joanna Ruhl will bring in light show surprises and other production magic to the storytelling of this play.

Tickets are limited with only 55 seats allowed with socially distanced seating. Purchasing early is recommended.

Performances of Take No Prisoners! are March 11-13, 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. at Greathouse Theatre in the Miller Center on the Asbury University campus.
