Auto Plaza USA, the dealership north of Nicholasville on U.S. 27 that allegedly defrauded more than 1,400 customers between 2012 and 2016, reached a deal on Friday to pay $465,000 plus fines and penalty fees.
Attorney General Andy Beshear’s office filed a deceptive practices suit against the dealership two weeks ago for collecting vehicle usage taxes from its customers and falsifying documents to alter the correct amount owed to the Kentucky Department of Revenue, and then charging customers a $489 fee for services that were incorrectly prepared. The alleged practices were in violation of the state’s Consumer Protection Act.
The Motor Vehicle Commission oversees vehicle dealerships in the Commonwealth and finalized the deal last week in which Auto Plaza USA will have to pay $465,000 in taxes owed, as well as the determined fees and penalties.
