Over 100 different community members showed up for the 18th annual FFA Chili Cook-Off at the Jessamine Career and Technical College on Thursday.

Students raised $1,625 at the event that featured chili, soups, sandwiches, and a live and silent auctions.

“The attendance was more than we’ve had in past years,” said Christina Thomas, Agricultural Education Teacher and FFA Advisor at JCTC.

Donations for the auctions, as well as the amount of money raised, also went up from previous years. 

The Jessamine County Goat Producers took home first place for the best chili with their “Gosh Darn Good Goat Chili.”

Sue Stafford won first place for the best soup with her broccoli and cheddar soup.

“It was nice to have everybody come out,” Thomas said.

The money raised at the event will fund various scholarships for FFA students going to college, as well as students going on field trips such as the freshman leadership conference and national and state conventions. It will also go toward buying students FFA jackets and supporting recreational FFA activities.
