East Jessamine High students can now shop for clothing and accessories at the new store inside the school.
Before East, “Jessamine Proud,” could be found in West Jessamine High and Providence.
Vocational trainer for the school district Linda Smith was at the store for its opening on Thursday.
“We have done really well,” Smith said.
“We started out at Providence and we moved back over to West last year and we have had a great success with customers coming in and out, teachers, people from the community and parents coming and buying East, West and UK attire.”
The West store is open from 9 to 12 p.m. and the East store will be open from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Students can work at the store for class credit. Though they will not be paid, they will still gain experience.
“They are going to help price, do inventory, learn to use the cash register and the computer,” Smith said. “Just helping be able to give them those skills.”
Every period, the store will have different students come in to work.
“We just wanted to come over to East and branch out,” Smith said.
