Absentee voting registration deadline is Friday

Tuesday, May 16 is the primary election voting day in Jessamine County. Not everyone can make it to the polls that day, but don’t fret, Jessamine County residents have options when it comes to how and when they vote; One of those options is casting an absentee ballot.

To obtain a paper absentee ballot, you must meet any one of the following requirements:-  You are a member of the Armed forces.
– You are the dependent of a member of the Armed forces.
– You are a U.S. citizen residing overseas.
– You are a student attending school outside the county of your voter registration.
– You temporarily reside outside the state but are still eligible to vote in Kentucky.
– You are incarcerated in jail and have been charged but not convicted of a crime.
– You have a disability, illness, medical emergency, or are of advanced age.

To order a paper absentee ballot, you may visit the county clerk’s office in person, request it by mail by sending it to the address in bold below, by calling the office at 859-885-4161 or online. After requesting an absentee ballot, the County Clerk’s office will mail an absentee ballot to the voter’s home address. If requesting the absentee ballot in person, it will be given to the voter in person.

The deadline for requesting a paper absentee ballot is Friday, May 5, 2023. If a medical emergency pops up, you may request a paper absentee ballot up until election day on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. If you are out of the county on election day and do not qualify for a paper absentee ballot, you may vote any of the 21 business days before the election in the County Clerk’s Office on 101 N Main Street in the courthouse.

Once filled out, Absentee ballots can be dropped off at the Jessamine County Courthouse at the voter’s office ballot dropbox or by mailing the ballot to the Jessamine County Clerk’s Office at 101 N. Main St., Nicholasville, KY 40356. All mailed or dropbox ballots must be received by the County Clerk’s office before 6 p.m. on May 16, 2023.

In-person absentee voting is also available, but voters must still qualify as absentee voters per the list of requirements above. Absentee voting will take place in the Fiscal Courtroom at the Jessamine County Courthouse located at 101 N. Main Street from May 3 through May 5 and from May 8 through May 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
