A beloved member of our community, Madeline Catherine Wurtenberger Ward, 98, joined her husband Jack in eternal rest on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Jack and Madeline’s family business, Ward’s Bakery on Main Street in Nicholasville, was a wonderful destination for young and old alike for many years. Madeline was born December 9, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Joseph and Josephine Schumann Wurtenberger, one of their five children. She graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy in Lexington, KY. After her marriage to Jack in 1947, she also became a fixture of Ward’s Bakery, until their retirement in 1985. Madeline was a dedicated member of St. Luke Catholic Church and a member of their Women’s Club. She leaves fond memories with numerous nieces and nephews, a host of friends, and her St. Luke Church Family, who will miss her ready and welcoming smile. She was preceded in death by three brothers Joseph, Harold, and Howard Wurtenberger, a sister Patricia Cooper, and a nephew Charles Ray Cooper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 31, 2023 at St. Luke Catholic Church, and then Madeline will be laid to rest with Jack at Calvary Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday beginning at 9:30 AM at the church. “In our community, what the heart has once known, it will never forget.” Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust placed in us to care for Madeline and her family.
