The Jessamine County Board of Education will be welcoming a new member for this year’s term.
After serving as a member, and sometimes a chairman, for 32 years, Eugene Peel will no longer be the voice on the board for the 1st Educational District.
Bobby Welch will be taking his place after receiving 1,611 votes in the Nov. 8 election.
“The first thing I plan to do, and have already started to do, is to meet the rest of my team,” Welch said. “I have already been in contact with Kathy and am excited to get started.”
Welch will be sworn into the Jessamine County Board of Education at the first meeting in January. During the same meeting, the chair position will become open and a new chairperson will be elected.
Superintendent Kathy Fields said she is anxious to get Welch on board and up to speed with all the projects going on in the school district.
“I think he has alot of out reach in the community, I think he’ll come on quickly, and I think he’ll be a valuable member on our board.” Fields said. “And we will certainly miss Gene.”
Amy C.Day for District 2 and Debra Lynne Hood for District 3 ran unopposed in the election.
