In any other year, groups would go into nursing homes to sing Christmas carols to the residents and spread a little Christmas cheer.
This year, they have to do it from the outside looking in.
Friday, members of East Jessamine Middle School’s Sources of Strength group went to Nicholasville Care and Rehabilitation with cards and signs for those inside, and more than a few Christmas carols to sing from outside their rooms.
EJMS counselor Betsy Montgomery said the students designed Christmas cards and yard signs themselves. Every resident got a card and signs were placed outside every room, so those inside could see them.
“They just wanted to do something nice for the residents here,” Montgomery said.
The group focuses on sending positive and encouraging messages at the school, she said. Currently, there are 53 members and about a dozen participated Friday, along with adult advisors.
Thankfully, temperatures were warm Friday for their outside activities.
“Since we can’t be in the (building), this was something we could do,” Montgomery said.
