WILMORE – Asbury University’s acclaimed school of communication arts is hosting its 15th Annual Highbridge Film Festival showcase at 7:30 p.m. Saturday April 27.
The doors of the historic Hughes Auditorium on the Asbury University campus will open at 7 p.m. and the event is open to the public.
Tickets are $15 and will be available two weeks prior to the event from on-campus outlets.
This year’s event theme focuses attention on the art of filmmaking, with visual elements of the festival weekend emphasizing the artistic storytelling process.“The touchstone of the Highbridge Film Festival event is to Dream, Create, Inspire,” said Todd Wold, an assistant professor of communication at Asbury and the new festival director.
“As Highbridge has grown to become one of the most highly anticipated and talked-about events of the year, the engine of the festival has always been great storytelling. By conceiving, crafting and telling these stories using the art of light, our students inspire and delight audiences year after year. The fact that our students plan and execute every element of the festival itself, makes it all the more exciting and enjoyable.”
Highbridge is produced and promoted entirely by the students of Asbury’s special events class. Headed by Wold, the class comprises six different event production teams handling the many moving parts of the festival programming, showcase and reception celebration.
For the past 14 years, Highbridge has been the biggest platform in the region for Asbury students and local high school filmmakers to showcase their work. Category winners are determined by a roster of media industry professionals that often includes actors, screenwriters, directors, writers and producers. The high school category winner receives a $1,000 scholarship from Asbury University.
Ticket holders are able to attend the film screening and showcase in Hughes Auditorium, along with a formal reception celebration in the studios of Asbury’s state-of-the-art Miller Center for Communication Arts.
