James Russell “J.R.” Casteel, 64 passed away peacefully Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born December 9, 1951 in Clay County, Kentucky to the late Roy Casteel and Pearl Vickers Preston.
James was a veteran of the United States Army. His favorite times were spent with his family and friends. Many considered him to be the life of the party, always telling jokes. He always made you feel loved. Every time you would go to his house he had to take your picture as soon as you walked in the door. He didn’t care if caught you in your worst or best times (I think he was using it as evidence)! He had 100 photo albums or more with pictures of everyone that he loved dearly. He loved reading history books especially about wars, watching the history channel and loved to watch college football. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Erica (Brian) Pinney; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Bethany and Ethan Pinney; sisters, Debbie Perrin and Pamela Hunter-Casteel; brothers, Danny (Beverly) Casteel and Joey Casteel and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brother-in-law, Mike Perrin.
Visitation was held 5-7 PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. Funeral service was held September 7, 2016 at Clark Legacy Center with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery.
