Nancy Short Stone (84), a beloved community leader, volunteer, and devoted grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. A Portland, TN native, Nancy touched countless lives in Franklin, Nicholasville, Versailles, and beyond, leaving a profound legacy of service, leadership, and compassion.

Nancy’s distinguished career included work in radio at WFKN, where her live interviews earned the Kentucky Department of Education’s School Bell Award. She later became Director of the Franklin-Simpson and Jessamine County Chambers of Commerce, where she launched tourism initiatives, chaired transportation task forces, and served as President of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives. She was a two-time recipient of the Chamber Director of the Year award and a graduate of Leadership Kentucky.

An avid volunteer, Nancy chaired Franklin’s State Bicentennial Celebration, recognized as one of Kentucky’s top five events, and contributed to local history preservation by authoring a book cataloging unmarked graves and leading restoration efforts at Greenlawn Cemetery. She was a state board member for Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky and held a gubernatorial appointment to the Kentucky Heritage Council for seven years.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Harvell Raymond Short and Annie Laura Short, and siblings, Ray Short II and Patricia Short Minor (Robin). She is survived by her daughters, Ann Stone and Katherine Stone (Jeff Walther); her brother, Gil Short (Debbie); her grandchildren, Hallie and Henry Walther, Megan and Cayce Jones; and cherished nieces and nephews.

A drop-in reception to celebrate Nancy’s extraordinary life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Versailles Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Participation Station at NAMI Lexington, an organization dear to her family’s heart. Online guestbook at www.BettsAndWestFuneralHome.com
