The Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL) has been offering events & cultural programs throughout February to celebrate the central role of African Americans in the United States.
Emily Moon, marketing and public relations coordinator said, “JCPL is proud that we have offered and continue to offer educational opportunities and performances in honor of Black History Month.”
JCPL kicked off this month’s celebration on Saturday, February 3rd. Dr. Kathy Bullock presented Singing in the Spirit: The African American Sacred Music Tradition, a powerful representation of the triumphant spirit and faith that have defined African-American music and people. That was followed by a program titled Black History Hall of Fame. Led by Dr. Daisy and Professor Paisley, this fast-paced adventure introduced over a dozen groundbreakers and Hall-of-Famers that have shaped our nation’s past, present, and future.
Coming soon, all are welcome to drop by for Learn & Go, where participants can test their knowledge about Black History Month and enter to win prizes. This come-and-go event is on Feb. 22 from 3–6 p.m.
