Lexington Police announced the suspect in a murder that occurred a month ago in Fayette County has been captured in Arizona and is now awaiting extradition back to Kentucky to face charges.
Police say on Sept. 23, shortly before 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South Broadway for a shooting with a victim. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot. The suspect fled before police arrived, and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s office. He was later identified as Dametrius Hampton, 18.
The following day, Police identified Jacolby Williams, 21, as the suspect in the fatal shooting, put out a public request for him to surrender to authorities, and issued arrest warrants for him on charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
With assistance from the US Marshals Service, the Tempe, Arizona Police Department, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Adult Probation Services, and a tip received by Bluegrass Crime Stoppers, Williams was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona, on Oct. 19.
He is currently being lodged in a Maricopa County Jail, pending extradition to Fayette County.
