Jessamine County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) performed an emergency roadside delivery of a baby boy early this week, according to a news release posted on the department’s Facebook page.
Lt. April Jenkins, paramedics Linda Wiggins and Houston Chamblin, advanced EMT Regina Abell and EMT Blake Digue made up the crew who responded to the call.
The mother was in active labor on the side of the road and when the crew arrived, they performed the delivery and cord-cutting.
“This little guy required a little additional care and our crews provided newborn resuscitation with airway and temperature management while he adjusted to the real world,” the post reads
The crew utilized EMS’s transwarmer for temperature regulation for the baby during transport and its Ambulance Child Restraint (ACR) device so the baby could be safely transported. Both mother and child were in good condition when they arrived at the hospital.
To celebrate the crew’s work in delivering this baby to its mother, the crew members were given commemorative blue storm pins.
