The summer concerts at Rock Fence Park are back in full swing.

On Saturday, May 27, the Heritage Messengers performed at the park.

The southern gospel quartet was established in 2014 and is based in Lexington. The band consists of four singers and an accompanist.

Saturday was their second time playing at Rock Fence Park.

Lead singer, Brad Kreager, said what keeps them coming back is one of the many purposes of the Rock Fence summer concerts, making the arts accessible to the public.

“I know it’s for a good cause. The arts are a good thing to promote in a city,” Kreager stated

Besides supporting the arts, Kreager said he enjoys the scenery of the venue, and is grateful to concert coordinator, Teg Evans.

“This facility, and this land, and of course Tegs’ coordination of everything is just wonderful.” Typically, the Heritage Messengers perform inside a church. Given this, the outdoor venue of Rock Fence is a change that they enjoed experiencing.

Additionally, Kreager appreciated the invitation to perform.

The band is what Kreager likes to refer to as, “Weekend Warriors.” He explained that performing is a part-time job, but places like Rock Fence allow them to continue to do what they love. “

This isn’t our full-time job…This gives us an opportunity to share, whether it’s Christian or country, or whatever it might be. The world is so focused on the famous people. A lot of times, these groups who have the talent get lost in the shadows,” Kreager said.
