The Nicholasville City Commission had a busy session Monday evening.

The commission heard the first reading of a trio of ordinances.

The following ordinances had their first reading and the ordinances will need to receive a second reading in a future meeting to be finalized:

• Ordinance 106-2023 is an ordinance amending the official zoning map for Nicholasville from I-1 (Light Industrial District) to DB (Downtown Business District) for approximately 0.093 acres of property located at 206 E. Maple street. This ordinance is the result of a recommendation of the Nicholasville Planning Commission.

• Ordinance 107-2023 is an ordinance amending the official zoning map for the City of Nicholasville from B-2 (Highway Business District) to I-1 (Light Industrial District) for approximately 2.50 acres of property located on US 27/Lexington Road between Park Central Avenue and Vince Road, the portion of PVA parcel #067-00-00-128.00. This ordinance is also the result of a recommendation from the planning commission.

• Ordinance 108-2023 is an ordinance of the city of Nicholasville closing the Remainder of Hager Lane, specifically the northern end. This ordinance transfers the aforementioned property to the Jessamine County Board of Health.

The commission heard a Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Inspection Report. This inspection focused on the Nicholasville Police Department. The city received higher than 80 from this inspection due to its facility. According to the inspector, Versailles and Nicholasville have the best police department facilities.

The body also approved the following new city employees:

• Michael Eakins will serve as interim director of the Department of Planning and Zoning at the hourly rate of $44.48, effective March 12, 2023. Eakins previously served as the department’s commercial building official.

• Barry Waldrop will serve as a seasonal auxiliary officer at the Nicholasville Police Department for the city park patrol at the hourly rate of $21.69, with no benefits, effective March 7, 2023. Waldrop previously served as NPD chief for 22 years and retired in 2018.

• Steve Williams will serve as Zoning Enforcement Official at the hourly rate of $22.50 pending results of a background check, physical and drug and alcohol testing, effective March 28, 2023.
