A new Salvation Army service center is open in Nicholasville.
The center, located at 212 Edgewood Dr., had its grand opening – complete with a ribbon cutting – at 10 a.m on Tuesday, and afterwords any interested persons was able to take a tour of the new facility.
“I am so excited for people to come in and it be a fresh new environment,” Rachel Stanford, the director of the Nicholasville center said. “I think what was the most important is making it more accessible to everybody, for everybody to know where we were. That way they can come in and get the things they need. We offer the food, the clothing, financials on a case by case basis … It’ll bring in a whole group of other people that need our services.”
The Salvation Army provides assistance to those in need by offering social services ranging from providing food, disaster relief, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing
and shelter for the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
The world-famous organization has been aware of the need for a new location in Jessamine County for some time.
“There have been unprecedented requests from neighbors for help meeting basic needs, especially food and utilities. In one recent week, 38 families applied to have help paying these bills so they would not fall further behind, ” a press release the organization sent out this week reads.
And now those needs can be met.
“It brings us into a place where we become accessible to people who may find themselves in need from time to time. So here we are able to provide things like utility assistance, rental assistance, food and clothes, and other services,” Salvation army Major William Garrett said.
