Jackie Walker Bellman, 69, of Nicholasville, died Thursday, May 6, 2021, peacefully at her home after a 3 year battle with cancer. She was a native of Jessamine County, born September 4, 1951, to the late Otha and Mildred Brumfield Walker. She was married for almost 50 years to her loving husband and high school sweetheart Bob. She was the adoring mother to daughters Jennifer Robbins (Dave) and Rebecca Johns (Andrew). She was an amazing, loving, and creative Yaya to 6 beautiful grandchildren: Luke, Emma, Isaac, and Noah Johns, and Sydney and Bruce Robbins. Other survivors include two brothers: Lee Walker and Bert Wayne Walker (Flo) and two sisters: Annetta Gayle Harney (Mike) and Sarah Walker and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children.
She was a 1969 graduate of Jessamine County High School and a 1973 graduate of the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington. She earned her Master’s in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. She was an inspiring and caring teacher to countless children over her 30 years in public education and was the 1991 Kentucky Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
She was a friend to a multitude of people who she cared for selflessly; a peacemaker who determinedly wanted to see wrongs righted even in her last days. She loved and worshipped Jesus intimately and fervently. She was a dedicated and lifelong member of Providence Christian Church.
After retiring, she traveled with her husband and friends. She enjoyed exploring the beauty of our great nation. One of her favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska traveling the inner passageway. She particularly enjoyed Glacier Bay National Park. Her motto was, “I haven’t been everywhere yet, but it’s on my list.”
