The Nicholasville Police Department will receive nearly $35,000 as part of $5.7 million in funding awarded to public safety agencies to aid in the fight against COVID-19.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced the funding Tuesday.
The grant funds are from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplement Funding Program.
As part of the program, NPD will be awarded $34,887 to help with purchasing personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies and reimbursement for overtime expenses related to COVID-19 response.
“These funds are crucial in assisting police departments, sheriff’s offices, correctional institutions and other agencies within the criminal justice system, to prevent, prepare for and respond to COVID-19,” Beshear said. “Our public safety agencies have worked tirelessly on the front lines during this pandemic, and have adapted quickly to many new challenges to continue protecting our Kentucky families.”
