The Nicholasville City Commission started the year with a handful of appointments to committees and local boards Monday evening.
The appointments included Paula Elder to the Board of Adjustments, Doug Fain and Steven Benson to the Nicholasville-Wilmore-Jessamine County Joint Tourism commission and Mark Wilson to the code enforcement board.
Following a 23-minute closed session, the commissioners voted unanimously to authorize city attorney Darren Sammons to begin negotiations to purchase a piece of property, which was not identified. Nicholasville Mayor Pete Sutherland declined to name the property or purpose, citing upcoming negotiations.
In other action, the commission:
— accepted a bid to demolish structures at 609 and 611 N. Central Ave.
— approved the transfer of Danny Eades, at his request, from training chief to lieutenant within the Nicholasville Fire Department.
— approved hiring Joseph Hobbs as a water plant operator trainee.
— approved the promotions within the Nicholasville Police Department of Matt Marshall to lieutenant, Alexis Jones to sergeant, Brian Fields to corporal and Autumn Howard to lieutenant.
