Kent Slusher announced his candidacy for magistrate in District 4.

Slusher has lived in Jessamine County his entire life and has volunteered his time at the animal shelter, served as booster club president and describes himself as someone who does what he needs to because that is who he is.

“The political experience is new to me,” Slusher said. “I might be naive or maybe I just see things too black and white but I see the magistrate election as an election of someone that has fully invested themselves in their community.”

Slusher went to school in Jessamine County, where he also drove a bus while he attended University of Kentucky. He has donated his time as a substitute teacher and served as a state forester for 24 years.

“We are a community of many people with different backgrounds,” Slusher said. “Our community has value as a great place to call home. I want to protect that value. I want the Jessamine County for my children and yours that I experienced. I want the Jessamine County that keeps its identity and does not become ‘Any Town USA.’ It can be done. Growth is good, but thistles are growth and we weed them. Wise growth is good. I look forward to meeting you at your doorstep or at the store or at a ballgame or anywhere you might see me.”
